The Iona Bar
About This Spot
Step inside The Iona Bar, and you’re welcomed by the easy rhythm of a well-loved neighborhood gathering spot. Situated just off Easter Road in Edinburgh, this bar strikes a warm, familiar chord — a place where the pace slows to match the friendly nods exchanged across the room and the low hum of lively conversations. It's the kind of spot where the small moments — a cheeky pint with mates, a shared basket of sandwiches at half-time, the buzz of a match playing on the screens — invite you to settle in and lose track of time.
The atmosphere here feels effortlessly inclusive, touched by a genuine kindness that makes regulars and newcomers alike feel part of a quietly unfolding story. There’s a comfortable blend of old faces meeting new, with a sense of community that’s felt not only at the bar but spilling out into the lush beer garden — a leafy refuge on lighter evenings that encourages lingering long after the last round.
Behind the bar, the staff carry themselves with an approachable ease, creating a welcoming vibe rather than a show. The selection of drinks, particularly their thoughtfully curated malt of the month and approachable beer list, mirrors the bar’s gentle balance of tradition and local character — perfect for sipping while catching up or unwinding after a day in the city. And for those who want company beyond conversation, the jukebox and well-placed TVs make it easy to dive into the shared experience of football or favorite tunes.
The Iona Bar feels less like a destination and more like a pause — a cozy corner of Edinburgh’s East End where friendships reconnect, quietly celebrated victories are toasted, and every visit holds room for a familiar smile or a new story to begin.

Friendly and a good place to watch the footie when you can't get a ticket. Sometimes free sandwiches at half time too

Really great local pub, friendly and kind staff, great prices. Love the beer garden as well. Great malt of the month rotation! Always love coming in for anpint or two after a long day.

I hadn't been in gor about 5 years, but went for a wander with friends I worked with 20+ years before. Had a great time, friendly staff and customers as well as seeing a few old faces.

Having recently moved in around the corner, I've been in a few times, friendly, good atmosphere, TV's for the footie, jukebox for the tunes, and WiFi too. Stella £3.30 a pint. All good.

Good, friendly atmosphere. Monday night is a Darts night. Every second week the team are at home. It is a good laugh and prices of drink aren't too bad either. If darts is your thing then I'm sure they would welcome you along... Good bunch of folk.

On match days it's marvellously mobbed, but it's so good on any day. Superb service and the pint never touched the sides and that is what good pubs are about. It wasn't a match day so I bought another for confirmation while the pals preciously sipped their pints. Ok I should've paced myself but when it's good, it's gotta be drunk. Thanks and see you soon.

Typically the last or main stop for match days.. mobbed on match days pre kick off. Corona, heinkan on taps with mixers and spirits.. Good staff, they do well to round everyone
